Retired now - working out what that all means. Family first. A bit lefty - against miserablism and declinism. A bit too much Arsenal. Former Headteacher and Academy Trust CEO.
What... to sit/stand half a pitch length away from the action? I don't think anyone wants that. Look at WHU.

Still banging on in the hope they can bring Labour down. For what?

The World has gone mad! Virtually every front page is 'on it' this morning, and Chris Mason is being Chris Mason. I hope none of these people can sleep at night, while they help to destroy our country.

Assume they will all face a lengthy stadium ban.

Yes. The media is a huge problem. I spent four decades in Education advocating for commitment to a social contract. However, the fight is against self-interest, which at some point takes over and appears to become a stronger driver the older you get. Not sure how you can fight that.

All very true. And I think we're getting more Trump because of the media's needs.

What's your evidence that he leaned on them?
January 25, 2026 at 1:19 PM
I keep hearing people eschewing 'appeasement', but very little about what should be done, other than 'stand up to him', 'show some balls', etc. So what should leaders be doing?

A great thread. Thanks.

I don't think 'appeasement' is the intention here. There's an interesting thread on this on the LeviathanWhite page. Sorry I don't know how to quote it here. Worth looking at.

Thanks. I think all of those options can remain at our disposal, but I don't think we need to go there just yet. I believe we need to be patient, and trust in diplomacy for a while longer. But I understand the frustration people feel.
January 19, 2026 at 1:27 PM
So. What do you want him/us to say/do? I am genuinely interested, but nobody seems to want to answer that.
January 19, 2026 at 1:07 PM
Thank you.
January 19, 2026 at 12:41 PM
You win
January 19, 2026 at 12:35 PM
And you still haven't said what you want him to say! What a hypocrite!
January 19, 2026 at 12:33 PM
I don't think that's what I said at all, but hey ho! You carry on being angry at Starmer. Perhaps Jeremy, Zak or Ed would do better.
January 19, 2026 at 12:32 PM
I think you want me to block you so you can have a social media win! You're not really interested in my answers. So... toddle on!
January 19, 2026 at 12:28 PM
I've already said that is what they are currently doing. They have outlined their position for everyone. Greenland is for Denmark and Greenland. Tariffs are unacceptable. Some military are in Greenland. Now it's over to Trump.
January 19, 2026 at 12:27 PM
But in reality they have no answers.
January 19, 2026 at 12:22 PM
Oh for goodness sake! You don't know what you want, and dress it up by having a go at someone who does! Reflecting exactly what is wrong with politics at the moment. The easy answers, declinism and miserablism are so much easier and more palatable for the hard of thinking. Enough!
January 19, 2026 at 12:21 PM
I think it only fair that you answer my question now.
January 19, 2026 at 12:07 PM
I answered your question, but now I can hear the wind whistling. Do you actually know what you want?
January 19, 2026 at 12:05 PM
We all know parents who repeatedly threaten their toddlers, only to give in, thus undermining their authority. We don't want to be painted into an impossible corner.
