Everwind Fuels applied to set up 54-turbines, 432-megawatt wind project in Guysborough County. The goal is to sell green hydrogen and ammonia overseas.

This project would cause some fish habitat loss and changes to 80+ wetlands

The project would require the clearing of about 623 hectares of land

So #TimHouston is looking for ways to claw back from the projected $1.2 billion deficit he put us in.

So one of these ideas is to reduce the funding for the greatly needed Heat Rebate Program? Which helped 132,000 Nova Scotians last year.

All the while N.S Power aims to increase rates.

During events you will see an influx of people using transit or even the ferry services. Depending on the event HFXtransit may even use a special bus specific to drive from Point A to Point B.
talkswithnerds.bsky.social
Precisely it's all about trying to find that ever elusive happy middle ground. Nova Scotians need more parking but the city needs to make revenue for it.
talkswithnerds.bsky.social
Have you seen the data on the pricing for downtown? It's not based on availability but zoning.

Here's a link that's actually made by HRM and the hotspot system.

If you have links that show pricing is based on availability please share it with the class.
On-Street Parking
On-street parking, pay stations, using HotSpot app to pay for parking in Halifax Regional Municipality.

Love to see the data if available. Please remember depending on the parkade it may limit who uses it. Some do not allow public access to them if it has restrictions. So while there may be available spaces there could be a valid reason why. I would speak to those running it to ask why.
talkswithnerds.bsky.social
Parking fees go up and down depending on the zone you are in. The topic is not about the fees but the lack of available parking spaces downtown vs N.S growing population.

N.S population could easily fit in cities like Montreal so comparing our parking to larger cities will give you incorrect data.
talkswithnerds.bsky.social
All those numbers included all the lots, given limited characters for each post I named the major ones. You can confirm these numbers online easily enough so long as you use Halifax data and not U.S
talkswithnerds.bsky.social
Unfortunately yep car sharing, transit, or other means of transportation has become the main advice our city gives you.
talkswithnerds.bsky.social
Now we have over 12,000-18,000 at the low end that every day requires parking downtown to work. This does not require those who park downtown due to deliveries, spots closed due to construction or events.

I hope this helps you understand as I included your parkades.
talkswithnerds.bsky.social
Let's do the math with rough estimate data that u can find online. On-street and off Street parking. Parkades has roughly 7,500 parking spaces, Scotia Square (1,700 spaces), Metropark (589 spaces), Nova Centre Parking Garage (350 spaces), Queen's Marque (300+ spaces), that's just under 10k spots
talkswithnerds.bsky.social
Good for you? Where you park is your choice this is a discussion over available parking for the masses not just yourself? Parkades manage their availability by knowing how many r using their spaces. Unfortunately there are not enough of them to help all of Nova Scotians who park downtown.

Every major city is different across the country, right down to their infrastructure. If you are going to use data to back up your argument you should use factual data for the area you are talking about.

Some cities may have it better than others, some have it worse. Every city is unique.

Even the Spring Garden Area Business Association (SGABA) among many other businesses have been asking for more parking for years, That is covered not only in this article shared in the original post but countless articles and studies about downtown Halifax.
talkswithnerds.bsky.social
you realize that's focused on the U.S and mentions nothing about Canada, Nova Scotia or Halifax parking infrastructure right?.

We have the hotspot parking app for downtown parking tracking and payments but it does nothing for the steadily increasing demand for parking.
talkswithnerds.bsky.social
Street parking has become a huge problem because of this, causing issues not only for traffic but transit. It's a literal nightmare for anyone working downtown
talkswithnerds.bsky.social
While parkades can help in some areas they fill quickly, they also do not help across downtown. Then there's the boost in the city population and our Premier removing the requirements of new buildings including parking. This causes more cars in the road and less parking overall.
talkswithnerds.bsky.social
Where? I worked downtown for years and everyone that drove had to park 10-15 mins away from their job, maybe excessive on the weekends.
talkswithnerds.bsky.social
What do they expect us to do?
Costs are going up across the board, greedy unchecked corp landlords keeping us 3rd most unaffordable province
Minimum wage is not keeping up
Money thru I.A is a joke
Parking downtown is basically non-existent

Nova Scotians barely can afford to live here anymore
