Climate scientists are doing excellent scientific work—but they are not fully engaged in the political, cultural, and communication arenas where public understanding is shaped and where fossil-fuel interests operate aggressively.

If we fail to confront the organized disinformation aimed at science—and at scientists themselves—we won’t be able to rebuild public trust, especially on climate issues. As Sir David Attenborough reminds us, “Saving the planet is now a communications challenge.”

Given the powerful capabilities of AI to spread large-scale, targeted disinformation about climate change, there is an urgent need to establish a Global Climate Change Center that uses AI to actively detect, counter, and debunk this misinformation.

Repeating the same actions and expecting different results borders on insanity. It’s time we organize meaningful educational efforts to push back against disinformation.

Stopping climate change has become a battle of communication—a struggle to win the hearts and minds of people around the world. Unfortunately, the fossil fuel industry is winning that battle with ease, as if taking candy from a baby.
