Yeah and the online mechanics of games also make them feel ephemeral, so seeing what survived or is even playable is another factor. So many games nowadays want you to keep spending money and even if you are entirely immune it's annoying for the game to keep up the salesman schtick.

It also doesn't help that in 10 years games as a whole don't look too much better. It's also a lot easier to see what was important to the medium by looking back. We're also older now and hype just doesn't sustain like it used to, at least for me.
