Idle reading for enjoyment is all about preferences anyway. In the end, there's probably someone out there who will take a lot of pleasure in what someone else writes. 😅

Popular writing will always have trends. More widespread communication makes these trends more predominant. There's technically real definitions of good and bad writing and correct and incorrect form, but sometimes breaking conventions is fun to see as a reader. It takes you to a different place.

It makes sense given an implicit goal of writing something generally appealing.

I personally find it rather fun when reading something where the author plays with word choice (and spelling), sentence structures, punctuation, and formatting. It's part of the charm of reading older English works.

The posts promoting it seem artificial too. Paid or generated blogging posts are always strange, but I suppose, I did bring it up because it was shown to me so often. It worked! 🤣

Sorry to intrude, but I wanted to mention that while somethings are common because of the influence of well-known works like Journey to the West, authors of xianxia (and wuxia) don't necessarily follow the same rules, so what is true in one may not be true in another. 😅 May makes things harder.
