Sure, but also a lot of the loot can become trivial. You'll be stacked with crafting materials and coins and can easily replace what was lost.
I have loot I don't WANT to lose, but there's almost nothing I can bring in that isn't easily replaceable.

There are quests and upgrade trees (mostly creating/improving workshops to turn lower level loot into better stuff) that require loot.
You can also sell loot to earn coins, which you use to buy increased stash space and other items.
But yes, you do also use loot in future loadouts too.
