One such project was the Finnish attempt to repurpose a Soviet BT-7 light tank into an armored personnel carrier (APC), designated the BT-43. Initiated in 1943, the project produced only one prototype before it was swiftly abandoned.

The Peruvian MBT-2000s were a result of a program to match the Chilean Leopard 2A4s and to replace the outdated T-55 and AMX-13 tank fleet of the country. However, the process would be troubled with corruption and tampering with requirements.

Only a small batch of C2Vs were built before cancellation. With no sense in scrapping them, the completed vehicles entered Army service, where they were eventually deployed during Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), the Iraq War of 2003 to 2011.

Based on the M993 common chassis, the M4 was set for full-scale production in the mid-1990s, however, it was not to be. The M4 was one of many prospective vehicle projects canceled during a mass cull of development programs that occurred in 2001.

Its counterpart was another Praga-designed infantry tank, the P-II-b. Unfortunately, the P-II-a fell short of the requirements, and lost to Škoda, whose Š-II-a became the LT vz. 35.

The company responsible for the LT vz. 34, ČKD, attempted to satisfy the growing appetites of the military by producing the P-II-a, a tracked armored fighting vehicle based on the P-II (LT vz. 34) that was meant to meet the requirements of category II-a, the Army’s cavalry tank program.

The first tankettes were a disappointment and, although the LT vz. 34’s were well-liked, the Army could not afford to stand still, so new requirements were made for the next generation of tanks.

While it was envisioned as a stopgap measure to modernize Spain’s armored units, the Leopard 2A4 mostly served as a training platform for tank crews and as an introduction to the more advanced Leopardo 2E.
