Interesting. Don't agree fully, but an interesting perspective. Thanks for sharing.

There are plenty of films I consider to be better than the books on which they are based: Drive (2011) and Jurassic Park (1993) are two examples that stand out to me.
I just don't feel that way in this instance, unfortunately.

Wait until you have to market it... 😅
In all seriousness, though, it's tough. But you've got this. The fact that you've got this far, and said this, shows that you do.

I am fully willing to admit though that this is very personal to me because Frankenstein is my favourite book. If it wasn't, I would probably see this particular film differently.
I don't think my perspective is any more valid than yours, but it is nonetheless my heartfelt opinion.

I think what I'm trying to say, but probably failing to adequately convey, is that I feel a wholly faithful-to-the-book film would have been not only artistically superior, but more powerful and moving (given all that you have said) too.
I'm also just truly sad that I'm still waiting for that film.

This is all great and I don't disagree.
The thing is the book, which was written in 1818, does all of this and does it better. It also presents the often violent and hate-filled consequences too, which this film ignores in favour of turning the creature into a superhero.

I feel both this and increasing William's age, as well as completely changing what actually happened between the creature and Elizabeth, was just to serve del Toro's plan of making a superhero movie.

So I watched #Frankenstein on #Netflix.

Some of you may know that Mary Shelley's Frankenstein is my favourite fiction book. Not only is it a trailblazer of the sci-fi and horror genres, it is also a powerful, tragic and poignant examination of humanity and morality.

Am glad you enjoyed it so much!
For me, Shelley's book is perfect. Because of that, this film can't be. But in my final post in the thread I do say if the book doesn't mean as much to you and you judge this as a standalone, you would probably give it ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐.
