I agree with Shelby Foote. He was the author of a massive history of the Civil War and one of the “stars” of Ken Burns’ brilliant documentary.

“Will the future be more secure? It'll be just as insecure as it possibly can, while still continuing to function. Just like it is today.” -Marcus Ranum, 2007, as cited by TaoSecurity Blog, 2007, and repeated in The Best of TaoSecurity Blog Volume 3, 2020.

Will the fact that China has an independent Cyber Force (as of 2024 apparently) finally force the US to implement its own independent Cyber Force? This pic is from the WSJ, from the parade in Beijing.

Every year on this day I watch two videos.

The first is the recording of the Apollo 11 descent.

The second is the song Go by Public Service Broadcasting about the landing.

Happy Independence Day. Do yourself a favor and watch Johnny Cash recite his Ragged Old Flag. I was in the audience for this in 1993, with my Georgetown summer program classmates, just prior to my senior year at the Air Force Academy. youtu.be/Vgpp0V7sDbE?...

Happy birthday Ulysses S Grant, born this day in 1822 as Hiram Ulysses Grant. He adopted the name US Grant because his Congressional rep provided incorrect info to West Point. His classmates saw US on his paperwork and nicknamed him Sam, from Uncle Sam.

I love how the covers of the original Star Wars movie adaptation played loose and fast with the actual plot. This is issue 6, wrapping up the movie.

How about that? 1111 straight days reading in the Kindle, which is a little more than 3 years. I’d have over 6 years if not for some Kindle snafu 1111 days ago that caused me to have to start my streak again. 😆

Congrats to the Internet Protocol Journal on 25 yrs of outstanding, free networking info. I sub'd in 1998 when I was a captain in the AFCERT trying to learn TCP/IP. I haven't been disappointed. I recommend Geoff Huston's 25-year retrospective on the Internet in the June issue. protocoljournal.org
