Cast down the mighty from their thrones and lift up the lowly.
We're with you buddy. They mess with one of us, they mess with all of us.

I kind of wonder if he's developed some sort of idea that he can avoid hell if he wills a Nobel Peace Prize. He's talked a lot about thinking he's going to hell, and he's also probably not long for this world.

The problem with vote scolding isn't that it makes people feel bad, it's that it doesn't do you any good. It doesn't get them motivated to do the right thing, it just makes them even more truculent.

I've got Yub Nub/Ewok Celebration, Highway to Hell, Time of Your Life, God's Gonna Cut You Down, Live and Let Die, Celebration, and Happy Days are Here Again (among many more)

I'm willing to have my mind changed, but my instinct is that if you promise categorically to imprison the people in power, then you really do give them no other choice than to try to hold onto it. This was one of the things that became a huge issue in republican Rome

I've been preparing a party playlist for months. Really feels like 2026 might be the year.

Yeah, as much as I agree that everyone in Ice needs to be in prison, publicly saying so just gives them further incentive to never allow a transition of power.

The other thing was, at that time, Rowlig was a widely-respected figure with an incredible track record for success. In retrospect, we can see that she'd already lost whatever juice she had, but at the time there was a lot of reason to trust her judgment.

In the 'philanderer' sense or in the 'predator' sense?

I would say that Paul is also individually underrated.

Many people go their entire lives without ever getting to say anything half as piercing to anyone. To get to deliver that line to one of the most evil people alive... that's gotta feel invigorating.

They've been teasing the possibility for so goddamn long now. You get the sense that Trump is genuinely torn between never wanting to be seen as backing down, and also not wanting to commit to a course of action which will obviously be super unpopular.

Yeah, when I was a kid I thought "Mary Theotokos" was her full name.

Is it actually wrong for her to suffer some level of embarrassment though?

I think it's good that there are social and legal penalties for publicizing explicit content of an ex-partner. But I don't agree that nobody is ever allowed to be dramatic about how a relationship ended. Are we going to say that Taylor Swift was "creepy" for writing all those songs?

Even if there weren't such a strong public interest element to this, even if this were all *pure* gossip and interpersonal drama... it's not a crime to be a messy bitch! Especially if your ex just published a novel-sized self-serving memoir about your relationship. She opened the door!

It's tawdry and crass for sure... is it exploitative though? Things can be unbecoming without being out-and-out immoral.

Once upon a time you became an adult somewhere in the 18-21 range. Then people started treating people as adolescents throughout their 20s. Now we're seeing an attempt to extend childhood into the 30s.

And the other side of it is people being like "All I know is that I could never be seduced into complacency by having my every desire immediately fulfilled. I'd hate that, actually."

That show in particular seems to cause a lot of people to feel this need to explain why, if they were in the show, they'd be incredibly ethical and responsible at all times.

It does help to explain how she's managed to assemble so many prominent defenders.

Did wealthy widows just dress like this in 1973? Have we lost so much?
