Could someone explain to me why it helps Wimbledon to have another player? Did they not have enough players? Is buying a player kind of like adopting an elephant in the wild where you get a picture of “your” elephant but really your money is used to support the entire habitat?

Are the six sellers listed on the website the only places that can provide signed copies? I asked my local bookstore to preorder a signed copy for me but before I clarify with them that I want a signed one, I want to be sure it’s possible. I’m in Canada if that matters.
