Snake-Eater by T. Kingfisher

Loved this book! A little bit spooky, a little bit cozy. Characters I want to hang out with, a town I want to visit, and a dog I want to pet.

A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah Maas

Man I don't even know what's happening in these books anymore. This one is a short novella but some of the characters are just so unlikable and aimless.

The Pale Flesh King by Richard Kadrey

I'm so glad there's a sequel! In NYC this time but same great characters doing spooky and sneaky work. Good stuff.

Wild, just wild convoluted story.

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah Maas

This book took a turn for sure. Still not sure I like this series but I'm also going to keep reading.

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah Maas

This was very silly but kind of great for breaking out of a reading funk.

House of Idyll by Delilah S. Dawson

Quick, unsettling read. Characters were okay if a little on the dim side for me. I could see where this was going pretty quickly but even so the ending was super abrupt.

A beautiful book despite the scary bits. At its heart, a meditation on loneliness and devotion and one very excellent dog.

North Sun by Ethan Rutherford

Whales and a polar expedition primed me to like this book and it didn't disappoint. Beautifully written in spare, sharp prose, very eerie and otherworldly with a supernatural backbone.

King Sorrow by Joe Hill

What a book! Incredible premise and set up. Dragged a bit for me in the middle (ugh some awful characters doing awful things) but that ending was spectacular. Long but worth it!

Bitter Waters by Vivian Shaw

All my favorite characters (plus a few extras) are back in this novella. Short and fun.

Coffin Moon by Keith Rosson

Vampires in the 1970s: gritty and fast-paced, heartfelt with great characters--good and bad guys. Also the children's museum might be the creepiest, saddest thing I've read all year.

It's raining too hard to light up our pumpkins which is a bummer.

On the bright side a 6' tall duck using a bread bag as a candy sack just took a huge handful of candy so it's not all bad!

Strange New World by Vivian Shaw

Another Greta Helsing novel but this one didn't involve her very much unfortunately. Lots of new (and less interesting to me) characters took center stage so kind of a bummer.

Crafting for Sinners by Jenny Kiefer

Excellent premise but I had a hard time connecting with Ruth who was like a naive Terminator. The middle was pretty repetitive and the ending had one random POV switch. I enjoyed the related media/flashbacks most.

Alex Easton in West Virginia?! I'm in! Just as spooky and heartfelt as the others. Plus funny!

The Autumn Springs Retirement Home Massacre by Philip Fracassi

This one was great fun, funny and bloody and full of heart. Rose is a character for the ages.

Great start, satirical, spooky. Draggy middle, rushed ending. This one didn't totally work for me.

Lucky Day by Chuck Tingle

This one wa only okay for me. A great start, really weird and fun. But the middle dragged and both Vera and Agent Layne were hard for me to connect with.

Play Nice by Rachel Harrison

Possessed house, family dysfunction, humor, an old book? Yes, please. Clio is absolutely insufferable, like no redeeming qualities as far as I can tell, but somehow I think this might be my favorite RH novel. I loved it!

Grave Importance by Vivian Shaw

Another Greta Helsing novel. Just as much fun and humor and oddity as the previous ones but with much bigger implications driving its charming characters. Loved it!

49/2025 Hemlock and Silver by T. Kingfisher

A fun Snow White reworking. Decent characters, tidy ending. Poison and a bit of romance. But slow sometimes but T. Kingfisher is always worth reading.

A blend of horror, Gothic, and romance. Interesting characters, unexpected ending, unique setting. Was fairly gruesome at times! I liked it.
