They are revenue sources, which is why they are able to make political demands of universities that no other group of students can. Being treated like valued members of a community is usually a byproduct of contributing some value to that community.

The left on the other hand tends to take a similar approach to a scientist; “well it’s not certain” which is honest and factual but doesn’t offer the emotional reassurances people are looking for. We shouldn’t be lying like the far-right, but we need a way to give disenfranchised men reassurance.

One fundamental difference is that the far-right/populist leaders promise to bring about change. Yes most of us know they are empty promises, but they are at least promises.

“We need politicians and elements of the media to start treating the public as adults, and debating the topic on facts instead of lazy and hysterical misinformation.” - this applies to so much more than just criminal sentencing.
