Slightly behind on work & it's rainy, so I'm reviewing for @learnedpublishing.bsky.social today. Got my pot of Cold Weather Warrior from @birdandblendtea.bsky.social, good tunes (thanks to @heatherstaines.bsky.social for re-igniting my love of Pulp!) & Monster Munch as a reward for finishing

Having cleared out the homes of several elderly relatives that followed that approach, I can confidently say it's not for me!

Thank you for reminding me why I need to keep going on my small-and-often approach!
Pick a shelf (or a topic), allocate no more than 30 minutes, and just get it done. Repeat every few weeks (also works for kitchen paraphernalia, craft materials, clothes, etc.).

Tell us what we're getting right - and wrong - by responding to the @countermetrics.bsky.social survey. It's open to everyone, not just members, and is your chance to shape what we do.

We have just launched our 2025 survey. Tell us what you think of Release 5.1, our tools and education materials and COUNTER in general. And let us know your hope for the Code in the future. Thank you for being part of the COUNTER community. www.countermetrics.org/2025-survey/

Lastly, we'll hear from the ever-wonderful @jemerypdx.bsky.social on retaking the library from protestors.

Like I said, a cracking line-up - hope to see you all there!

Then we get into two sessions on research censorship, first from Laura Beane and then a discussion led by @alicemeadows.bsky.social about #defendresearch, with Louis Coffait-Gunn, Terri Teleen, and @lschiff.bsky.social

Closing out the first half-day is Michal Singer speaking about resilience, loss and recovery after the Jagger Library Fire at the University of Cape Town.
Day two starts with @janeharvell.bsky.social and Jonathan White about libraries adapting for continual change...

First up at Uncovered is Stephanie Decker & @heroicendeavour.bsky.social on the AI ethics blind spot, followed by Ana Heredia, Meggie Mwoka, @irfanullah.bsky.social and @rschrobuk.bsky.social on global perspectives on navigating funding disruptions

I'm looking forward to this @uksg.bsky.social webinar on usage metrics! It's happening a week after Uncovered, so you get two UKSG events in one month. Uncovered is about managing uncertainty and risk in our ever-changing world, and it's a cracker of a speaker line up: www.uksg.org/events/uksg-...

I've been playing with Consensus, a RAG system, and really like it.

Saw a new consultant yesterday for dodgy knee & even more dodgy shoulder.
1. I'm not allowed to do anything with my arm until tomorrow, so I'm sorry if you're waiting on something from me
2. PSA "Your shoulder is not supposed to sound like a maraca"

(ps yey for speech to text)

I'm slightly worried that there may be no non-selfies of me that don't feature either a glass of wine, or a lectern-and-slides arrangement.

No credit required, I just didn't expect anyone to want to use one of my scribbles (though I do kind of want to tell my GCSE Art teacher, just to show that artistic merit has no bearing on visibility 😂)
tashamc.bsky.social
I just had a moment of utter confusion about what @countermetrics.bsky.social was asking for feedback about😅

That scribble is in one of my @ieeexplore.bsky.social notebooks (because spiral bound is the best!) and I think it was used for our community survey a couple of years ago

We've also had two emergency vet visits (for different cats, both now fine), and the car suspension needed to be replaced, all in the last six weeks. I could really do with this run of minor disasters being over!

I feel the panic! Our washing machine broke two weeks ago and flooded through into the kitchen below. Had to replace the machine (11 years old) and redecorate the kitchen (originally planned for 2026)

One of the reasons I like the POSI principles is that they include a requirement to push for financial sustainability that isn't reliance on grant funding!

@countermetrics.bsky.social tried ai translation last year for our friendly guides and the outputs were unusable. I want to try again this year with languages we've not manually done, but need humans to check the translation quality!

Attending #FutureSciPub @royalsociety.org and I've yet to hear anyone talk about ensuring that the new models are technically viable. Research integrity and discovery are essential but we need accessibility and preservation, too!
tashamc.bsky.social
Yes, I thought that was peculiar too!
