The budget deficit in the US reaching levels where it becomes increasingly likely that high inflation will be the way to manage the debt. Add the regular extortion from the White House. Why would you want to tie yourself any closer to the US?

It is probably worse than that. No active conspiracy or coordinating body is really necessary. It happens organically. Other countries have similar but less extreme situations.

I wonder how the wealthy political donors have influenced this over the years. Focusing on cultural issues is great from a wealthy-donor perspective as it is free and requires little in terms of taxation. Capital to the donors and culture-wars for everyone else? No collusion needed!

Great initiative! So much left to fix… At this point, what does it take to restore credibility in the institutions - including media? Even if we avoid entrenched autocracy, you can’t un-see what has happened and without major binding/hard (eg. constitutional) reforms, credibility will be lacking.

The pardon power is enabling patronage and one of the more problematic elements of the constitution. For a corrupt president it becomes preferable to have people commit crimes as it ensures loyalty to him. Now that it has been abused in this way it is very challenging to turn back the clock.

I guess that they just take a long time to “learn”. Hours, days, weeks, years … still trying to figure it out - are you a citizen or not… Soo much learning to do. Takes time. Lots of it.

No credibility which nobody wants to highlight so as to avoid (or perhaps only postpone) a temper tantrum and another hug-fest with the mass-murderer. This show might not even be driven by anything related to Ukraine - just stirring the pot to keep everyone confused.

There are two credible high-level options; substantial proliferation of nuclear weapons with country-local launch authority that could target Russian society or substantial trip-wire forces including UK and France. Repairing US credibility will take decades.

Could be a lot simpler…. Another way to distract from Epstein, Econ etc… Got to keep stirring that pot. Who cares about money - they got enough of that coming in as it is. “Oh no he took x million from Russia” let’s impeach - right? Right?

Grundproblemet i LA är inte ”hur löser vi problem X”. Problemet är att det inte finns ett ”vi”, ingen gemensam problemdefinition och inte heller en grundläggande gemensam politisk målsättning. Närhetsprincipen kräver ett visst mått av sammanhållning för att kunna tas i bruk.

Having had kids in Sweden (several years ago)… there is no silver bullet; nearly free healthcare, stable housing situation, heavily subsidized daycare, (partially) paid parental leave (up to 18months), child subsidy for many years. That does work!!! $5k, $10k one-time payments are gimmicks.
