This gem of a book written and illustrated by Loretta Schauer, jumped right to the top of my reading pile. An action-packed MG adventure story that is beautifully told and illustrated. Thanks to @toppsta and @andersenpress. Off to share this with my young people who will no doubt love it too!

After attending a talk by Sarah Ann Juckes on writing realistic dialogue, I borrowed 'The Night Animals'. Beautifully illustrated by Sharon King-Chai, this heartfelt story is why children's fiction is simply amazing. It doesn't shy away from difficult topics, but tackles them with sensitivity & hope
