As a Tasmanian I assumed the ferry fare would be similar to the Bruny Island price. Closer to a Spirit of Tassie fare. For the four of us and car it was around $488 return. Food and drink on board extra. This was around 8 or 9 years ago.

Visited Kangaroo Island with family a few years back. Organised our flights, hire car, accommodation and left the ferry until last. Bad move. Absolutely gobsmacked at how much it cost. At that point we were financially committed to the holiday and we enjoyed it, still research ferry cost first!

A Kangaroo Island brewer says he will no longer supply beer to the island's ferry service, amid a growing outcry over the high cost of fares to the popular international tourism destination.

It’s so retrograde, & typical Hard Right oversimplification of the idea of economic benefit = financial benefit. Arts & culture, is not there for making people richer financially; the wellbeing effects, & creative inspiration it generates, can’t be measured like that. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

So frustrating just as production of TV shows was ramping up in Tasmania. Yes we need tradespeople and carers but we also need our creatives. Lab technicians are also vital. All this will do is send young people to the mainland to pursue learning and training. Something they claim they don't want.

Basically the Tasmanian government want the blokes to train for well paid trades and the "little ladies" to train for low paid care roles. The 1950s heard Tasmania calling. Tasmania will miss out on TV production again without screen & media expertise. #politas

From $4,000 to $21,000 — lab training in Tasmania could be a thing of the past
Tasmanian TAFE graduates worry as some locally taught courses that helped them forge a career may disappear as the cost to study them increases dramatically.

It's hardly a "war" when the other side has virtually no means of mounting a defence. I still wonder how Hamas were able to do what they did two years ago. Where was the much vaunted Israeli intelligence? Did the government of Israel know what was going to happen?

"Hobart is a tinderbox." I remember well evacuating our Geeveston home in January 2019. A very scary time. The town literally ringed by fire. Thanks to fire-fighters and a fortuitous wind change the town survived. It could have been a lot worse.
Australia's south coast 'very, very high risk' for bushfires, modelling shows
New Australian research shows, globally, major bushfire events are becoming more frequent, fatal and economically damaging.

Someone with SIX previous drink driving convictions should never be allowed to drive again. The 18 month licence suspension coincides with the amount of time he'll spend in prison. He's forfeited his right to drive in my book.

I hope the Upper House independents, sitting on the fence over the stadium approval, consider the cut of $670M from the state health budget. Rockliff is jumping up and down blaming the federal government but the Liberal state government can't pass the buck. #nostadium #politas
