I really blame the companies for this problem. Shady "we ship u LLC" outfits undercut legit shippers by hiring unqualified drivers at bs pay, putting them in substandard equipment, and sending them on runs that are impossible to complete legally.

In addition, being a truck driver is more than just getting the truck from point A to point B. The driver needs to be able to understand the bill of lading, be able to take direction from the people loading and unloading the truck, and get those last mile directions that aren't on any GPS or map.

However, not all roads are compliant, and some situations are ambiguous. "Reduced gear zone" does not mean the same thing as the black on yellow pictogram of a truck on an inclined plane. "Trucks over 21,000 lbs" with "Speed limit 20 MPH" doesn't have a standard sign in the US.
