Professor, gamer, explorer and silly person. My feed is a mix of sustainability research, climate justice and transitions, geek culture and politics. Wyong lad.
An alternative and much more positive viewpoint as opposed to the rubbish put out by the leader of the UK Conservatives today. This is pure positioning for Offshore Europe tomorrow. I look forward.. kinda...to presenting this on the Fri panel.

Decarbonisation is not deindustrialisation - it's the UK's best chance for economic renewal and a just transition
There is a substantive amount of debate about the nature and shape of the future UK economy in the context of achieving Net Zero. This has, rightly so, been focused on the regions, places and sectors ...

Don't let the stats get in the way of a good political fabrication...
The Centre for Migration Control?

A “Think Tank” ran seemingly by one guy called Robert Bates, a Senior Reform Campaigner in the Channel 4 Documentary released last year ‘Undercover inside Reform’s campaign’.

His data is wrong and purposely misleading.

The formation of the new @yourpartyuk.bsky.social been described as 'chaotic'. Don't confuse this with energy and vibrancy.. 600k have joined. Its a movement that will shake things up. Its exciting to do politics this way. But we do need proper process and formal means of engagement to follow.

#yourpartyuk this is why I joined.
This is far from definitive, and the dialogue needs to happen, but I would argue that the new left progressive party needs to focus on 3 issues.
1. Palestine.
2. Poverty.
3. Planet.
There is a 4th which is more process oriented. Politics. The biggest challenge and opp is uniting the left.

Ahh.. thankfully some factual and reasoned information if you care to look. High levels of 2024 immigration driven by work / skilled visas and international students. All who massively contribute economically and socially to the UK.

Very excited to be launching our project JUST-Systems tomorrow. In final prep & thinking about how to bring together people and ideas to develop a whole systems approach to a people centred transition. Fundamentally its connecting a better quality of life to Net Zero.

I've come a way on nuclear energy. From student protests in the 90s in Aus to perhaps more mature environmental views. We will soon launch new research on nuclear and a just transition in Scotland. Short answer, I believe it has a role to play in decarb energy mix.

Nuclear-generated electricity is a more climate-friendly route to energy security than fossil fuels

The fossil fuel industry can't be trusted with a just energy transition. There has been goodwill, dialogue & difficult conversations (which will continue) but at the end of the day, these statements show the truth - a lack of commitment to a genuine transition.
