It's like 2% below an ATH set in the last few weeks. Trump is mismanaging the economy, but it's not showing up in the stock market yet.

get the data to feed the big decisions, and please put the same effort into the bus system that serves many of the hardest working and least privileged residents of the area that you've brought to improving the parts of the rail system that serve affluent suburban commuters. /end

But back to the beginning: sometimes all that's needed is basic ops, like not dispatching three express buses within a minute of each other. It feels like tons of effort has gone into improving the Red line, and yet we're still stumbling over the basics on bus ops. Start with the basics, 10/

tell you that a bus that's half a mile and two stops away will be there in 2 minutes. It may be a hard problem, but it's not an unsolvable one, and for years there has been no effort to even try. 9/

the revenue is there to support the headways we need and farebox numbers better represent rider volume. Finally, it's time to invest in fixing BusETA. "Predictions" for buses that run every 15 minutes that are constantly off by 7-8 minutes are just random numbers, and the system will frequently 8/

upgrading the APC system and making other changes that allow you to actually know how many people are riding and how full each run is. From there I'd think you'd see just how poorly the current headways serve demand, and how awful the rider experience is. We also need fare enforcement so that 7/

mixed income and working class neighborhoods served primarily by buses. All we've seen for years is overcrowded buses, long rush hour headways, and BusETA data that is laughably inaccurate and still contains ghost buses. It's time for a real investment in bus service, and that needs to start with 6/

We all understand that the game WMATA has to play right now is to make affluent suburban Red line commuters love the system so that MD's legislators will vote for more funding. 12 trains an hour on the Red line is a laudable achievement, but it's cold comfort to those of us who live in the 5/

passenger load accurately either. WMATA is pretty much flying blind on bus ops, with no idea what the actual passenger load/demand is on these and most other lines. The lack of accurate planning and the resulting inadequate headways are making the rider experience miserable even in nice weather. 4/

However, these buses are almost always full to the gills during rush hour and frequently pass stops with "Bus Full" on the display when the data says they're not crowded. You and I both know why: the APC data for buses is garbage, and the farebox recovery is so low that it doesn't measure 3/

As for 14th St being a critical corridor, I'm glad you feel that way but I wish that sentiment were reflected in the rush hour headways. Part of the problem is that the BusETA data constantly shows these buses as not very full, displaying one or two little people icons meaning up to 75% full. 2/

Thanks for the reply. Again, this is not because of the storm. The three D5X running convoy were just north of 14th and P, 5 stops into the route and just over a mile from the start, about 4pm and traffic was moving. It's also not bad transponders, see the photos. This is simply an ops problem. 1/

Thanks TJ, but why are D50 and D5X being dispatched in groups of 3 each rather than alternating? That's the root problem here

@wmata.com @metrobusinfo.bsky.social come on, we can do better than this.
January 29, 2026 at 9:17 PM
A few minutes later and another wave of three D5X is coming. What are we doing here?

She claimed they have 280 plows out, an obvious lie. DC only has about 1400 miles of roads. Call it 4000 total miles to plow with multiple lanes and the routes not being perfectly efficient. If there were 280 plows out there going 5 mph the whole city would get done in 3 hours.

Please don't repeat obvious lies from the Mayor. DC only has about 1400 miles of roads. Call it 4000 total miles to plow with multiple lanes and the routes not being perfectly efficient. If there were 280 plows out there going 5 mph the whole city would get done in 3 hours.

Please don't repeat numbers from the Mayor that are obviously false. DC only has about 1400 miles of roads. Call it 4000 total miles to plow with multiple lanes and the routes not being perfectly efficient. If there were 280 plows out there going 5 mph the whole city would get done in 3 hours.

Technically Monday was a teacher work day so we've only lost two instructional days so far. Bowser's pre-storm press release promised over 300 plows. We all knew that was BS, but didn't expect it to be by such a large margin.

✅ The CM's street gets plowed multiple times since the storm.
❌ Many Ward 1 streets haven't seen a plow yet.
❔ Will the CM do any oversight of DPW and their claims that over 300 plows would be activated?
👎 Probably not, if history is any guide.
January 27, 2026 at 3:40 PM
Where are the 300+ plows you said would be mobilized? The 79 out there now are the most that the tracker has shown since the snow started.
January 26, 2026 at 10:13 PM
@maustermuhle.bsky.social would love for someone to call them out for this on a press conference for once, they do it during every storm. I've been checking the tracker, highest number of plows I saw was 59.
