The differences in these terms, are the power they have to give colour to a conversation.

I often end up choosing just for effect. Especially against people that use the terms as a gatekeep.

You call a Gustave Courbet "porn", you can piss off the perfect subset of people.

I tried Ubuntu off and on for a decade. It never stuck. The reason was Gnome, not Ubuntu itself. After trying kubuntu, I realized KDE was a way better fit for my brain.

I think for most people it's not so much the distro, its the DE which is important.
