IMHO, if Trump decides to ditch Ukraine completely, we are to expect a lot of direct action by the SBU/HUR inside russia in 2025, including targeting of strategic assets and elimination of key personnel (pilots, crew, etc), for anything long-range.

There is some real movement in the line, but the big km2 figures and double digit tallies of settlements retaken is a highly misleading representation of the reality on the ground.

As I mentioned on Twitter, 90% of the counteroffensive maps you'll have seen are mappers correcting overmarking of Russian advances.

Those villages were never truly under Russian control. It was small forward units in contested areas; these are largely just fluctuations in the contested zones.
On the Zaporizhzhia / Dnipropetrovsk boundary, Ukraine pushed through Sosnivka towards Ternove.

Ukraine has also attacked west from their positions around Dobropillia, towards Solodke.

The proper way to describe this reality is: "they still want to conquer and destroy Ukraine". The word peace doesn't belong in the sentence. Why do people keep sugarcoating Ru's imperialist intentions?

The parties agreed on nothing and will meet again at yet another meaningless “summit” in a month, so that Russia can continue buying time and making a fool of Donald Trump while continuing to destroy Ukraine.

You’re welcome.

And the U.S. administration still has neither the power to force Ukraine to surrender, nor the conscience or the wisdom to stop this idiotic charade with Putin and instead begin pressuring Russia and arming Ukraine so that Ukraine can make Russia accept a stable and lasting peace.

Russia still refuses any ceasefires, any compromises, any halt to the war -- and agrees to nothing short of Ukrainian surrender, with ever-growing demands leading ultimately to Ukraine’s destruction.

Ukraine is still willing to agree to absolutely any ceasefires, compromises, a halt to the war, a freeze along the front line, and all possible and impossible mineral deals to please Donald Trump -- but it is not willing to capitulate and be destroyed by Russia.

I feel like we've all lost sight of the fact of the sheer magnitude of the failure of Putin's latest offensive, i.e. the one that began in 2024—mainly because it's been so baked into the day-to-day.

Far and away the least successful offensive we've seen in not just years, but decades.

It's good thing then that Taiwan and Ukraine are not yours to give up. Ukraine fights and Taiwan will fight not because anyone is forcing them to but because they think their countries are worth defending. This level of spineless bootlicking is nauseating.
or the whole thing goes... KABOOM! IMO, we shouldn't even flirt with such temptations. I say we let them have taiwan. what the hell do i give a fucking shit? appeasement is always preferable to a hot war with a nuclear power.

If you already tell the enemy you are willing to trade anything to avoid nuclear war, then you have made his job easy. The enemy will simply ask for everything and demand that you give it up or else the nukes start dropping.

To add to this, Ukraine didn't start Feb 24, 2022 with 5k Javelins nor F-16s, M109A6s, M1s, Leo 2s. The war started with the equipment Ukraine had in hand, they blunted the Russian offensive and routed CAAs with equipment and forces they had on hand. That is why we stepped up support.

Ukrainians trust no one because we had the Budapest Memorandum Zelensky said. We gave up nukes and dozens of aircraft for security assurances. Then Russia came and nobody stopped them.
