What do you think is the cause of these cancellations in Texas? @theecologyprof.bsky.social

A true test for a grid is how it handles worst case scenarios, eg the cold snap in late January, 2026 @theecologyprof.bsky.social kclapp.substack.com/p/the-texas-...

You and I must be looking at data differently, why combine wind and solar, why not include imports? Paris climate target is <100 grams CO2 emitted/kwh, averaged on an annual basis, currently at 170, long way to go app.electricitymaps.com/map/zone/US-...

Energy and electricity are foundational and underpins everything in modern society. Electricity needs to be reliable, resilient, stable, dependable and secure to maintain current standards of living, let alone for nation-building projects. Unfortunately, Manitoba's electricity is none of these

Did you notice this statement in the article? I prefer grids that don't need "dirty and often inefficient power plants that burn black and brown coal and emit significant amounts of climate pollution to function" app.electricitymaps.com/map/zone/CA-... & app.electricitymaps.com/map/zone/FR/...

Someone needs to tell Europe not to be so incredibly dependent on energy imports. At least Europe has an example of how not to do it in Germany.

What do you think of the Paris climate target of emitting <100 grams of CO2/kwh, averaged on an annual basis? South Australia is close, the other more populated states, not so much. Any comments on the retail prices? I hope to never have to pay that much. app.electricitymaps.com/map/zone/AU-...

Did you read this post, it is a critique of your most recent article in reneweconomy? @theecologyprof.bsky.social I'm curious why you did not include retail prices? substack.com/@benbeattie/...

I am a proponent for electricity grids to be reliable and clean in all conditions, including the last few days, worst case scenario, how about you? How much GW & GWh of batteries, solar and wind would be required in the scenario pictured? @theecologyprof.bsky.social
January 27, 2026 at 1:18 AM
Those prices you are showing refer to Lazard's "snapshot in time" pricing. We need full system cost pricing that also factor in reliable, 24x7x365 operations instead. Fortunately, UNECE and partners are correcting this situation @theecologyprof.bsky.social unece.org/climate-chan...

You mean the way taxpayer money was used on this boondoggle? 500 billion euros over 20 years, yikes and the grid is nowhere close to meeting the Paris climate target of <100 gmsCO2/kwh, averaged on an annual basis. clashreport.com/world/articl...

The fact is Australia has very dirty and very expensive electricity. Who are you accusing of spreading FUD? France has been far <100 grams CO2/kwh, averaged on an annual basis, for ~40 years, why not copy them, that is assuming one cares about GHG emissions? ec.europa.eu/eurostat/sta...

They announced the life extension last week of a large coal plant. Best to watch for permanent displacement of FF production and Paris climate target of <100 grams of CO2/kwh, averaged on an annual basis. Aus is doing poorly on both, no states hit target, largely populated ones >449
