Happy Tolkien Day!

When people say, “I love experiences over things,” they always mean travel or concerts or such? Can’t staying at home and enjoying silence and books be an experience, too? Or sitting with a friend over coffee? Are the only meaningful things are life are those that cost money or IG-post-worthy?

Just read Horowitz’s article on why kids don’t read. Phones and tech are a culprit, but I think her cultural value argument resonates stronger. American culture values future employment over personal development, which reading and time alone are key teachers.
