@darebinstreets.bsky.social Thoughts on the proposed streetscape upgrades to High St in Preston? The preferred design is excellent in terms of pedestrian amenity but woefully inadequate for cyclists, not a single proposed design was good for cyclists.

Stay classy, Melbourne.

Before and after photos of the cancelled East-West Link. Comparing this to before and after photos of the North-East Link, it seems that we cancelled a bad project and built an even worse one.

Some good new statistics to counter anyone who says the LXRP "only benefits drivers".

"vehicle collisions and near misses across the network has fallen by almost 80 per cent since 2019, from an average of 11 incidents a month to just two incidents a month last year"

SRL will boost local businesses. Just another reason to support more housing where people want to live.

A rainy photo of the city over the Hume. I wasn't expecting to get wet when I went for a bike ride :(

Now let's see this happen here in Melbourne!

50c fares won't meaningfully shift people away from driving.

I drive to uni. $10 parking vs $5 train fare.

Driving is twice as fast as the train. Even if fares were free, I'd pay 10 dollars to save an hour per day.

If the train was competitive with driving, I'd even pay a higher fare.

Boort, on the Robinvale line. The curve in the siding stood out to me as interesting, so here's a photo :)

Christmas wishlist:
- trains every 10 minutes or better all day every day
- bike lanes on the route I commute
- socks cause mine keep going missing

Day 3 of hanging around Newport station at night, trying to see the first test run of the X'Trapolis 2.0. I have not had any luck...

Melbourne may not have trains running down highway medians, but we have trams that do.

Rosanna station was rebuilt in 2018 as part of the Level Crossing Removal Project. They also installed 1km of off-road shared use path. The problem is, the path doesn't go anywhere.

South Morang station, the former terminus of the Mernda line. The line was extended to South Morang in 2012 and again to Mernda in 2018.

Headline projects like Metro Tunnel and SRL are undeniably important, but we mustn't undervalue the smaller-scale improvements and extensions.

Every time I ride my bike to work I have to make a decision:

Do I take the faster, more direct route along dangerous roads?

Or do I take the longer, less direct route through back streets?

Either way, I lose.

Bike Route Buddy
If it has got markings as a bike route (an on road lane, dedicated bike path or shared path), I will ride it and give my review of it.
