We're still new here and setting up!

Account run by a small team of two aspiring indie game devs: GyD the programmer and Bronwynn the artist. Check out our output over the years at https://sunforge.itch.io !
I see thanks! That's partly what I meant by "how does one follow" cause I didn't even know this was a thing lol. I guess adding the hashtag to my watch list is a good enough start

Used to be, in ages of yore, they reprinted cartridges with fixed/updated versions. Not something we will ever see again, I am afraid.

considering pretty much every fully on cart game has downloadable patches and updates, we're kinda past the point of the "full package on kart" and have been for a long time.

Semantics aside though; I get what you mean, and I agree. The trend is disappointing.

Can you use the zig-zag technique to fly against the wind more efficiently? Like for example hos sail ships can manage pretty decent speed against the wind by goin somewhat sideways in either direction and switching it up periodically

there were some fantastic action platformers on DOS! I recommend you look into them for sure

Commander Keen, I think, most specifically

Oh, I almost forgot! This is a rebuild from scratch of a game jam project we did three and a half years ago. You can still find the original 3-day version on our itch page! It's a liiiittle busted though haha

I think last time I opened the project (yesterday) was exactly day 250 of development, actually. Fun milestone!

But yeah when we say we've been working on this game for 2 years, the "on and off" part is implicit. Damn you, normal person job I have to do to support my hobby game dev activities!
November 10, 2025 at 9:48 AM
*of those 2 years, about 40% of the days (so... about 9 months out of 24) were actually spent on development. Ah, the joys of indie developing <3

I haven't posted anything on Spectral Express on this account yet, but might as well use this opportunity to, haha

handwaving away a response for a specific answer with "you know what I mean" isn't really constructive. I think it is a worthwhile discussion to be had to try and determine at least in what neighborhood the "indie" line should be drawn.
November 6, 2025 at 10:07 PM
Wouldn't that be confusing, considering "indie" is just short for "independent" already?
November 6, 2025 at 10:03 PM
I agree based on vibes of what an indie game SHOULD be, however, can you give a solid definition of "indie game" for the benefit of a non-vibes based settlement to this argument?
