Open AI and Google are pushing for the US government to allow them to train on Copyright protected materials. To require individuals to register copyright in order to enjoy protection for their IP (17 U.S. Code § 411) and giving that IP away is unfathomable.

This is problematic for a number of reasons; but the most challenging is AI's proclivity to hallucinate to meet prompters' biases. As the EU sets up guardrails which ensure fairness in AI use, it seems that the US is more invested in the omelette than the eggs.

While it has not been confirmed that AI was used, it is important to note that as the US becomes more dependent on AI, the rules of war will have to adjust to determine what is acceptable use (and loss of civilian life) to advance technology.

“I need lethal machine-learning models, not equitable machine-learning models,” - Pete Hegseth. Those two are not mutually exclusive. Equitable AI does not refer to the social justice alignment but acknowledges that AI can make catastrophic errors when profiling minorities.
We need better AI.
