In 2014, the Brisbane activist community got together to organise a community driven response to the G20 Summit planned for the city. Rather than focus on or give fuel to the mainstream media obsession with riots and drama (in Brisbane, really?), the community... https://altmax.com.au/?p=1424

This physically hurts 😢 Trump turning the US Environmental Protection Agency into a rubber stamp for allowing energy companies access to national parks and protected reserves solely in the aid of profit. I feel like throwing up. This is bad for the world.

Trump lies. No subsidy cheque has ever been cut for the Canadian government. He's talking about budget deficit, which is 40-45 billion not 250. And if you take raw crude out of the equation, the deficit become a surplus. That crude is refined in the US […]

The modern version of book burning is what Trump has kicked off with his executive orders, defacing government websites, deleting research and valuable information left right and centre, just because of tenuous links to DEI, gender ideology or any other kind of things MAGA hate.
The first ever US national nature assessment has been terminated and its USGCRP and DOI webpages have been removed.

Howdy all my Mastodon homies. It's a sad departure from Indieweb.social, which has been a great and highly recommend instance, but I'm moving to a friendica instance, anonsys.net, for some of the unique friendica features not available on the mastodon platform. I will still be keeping up with […]

Okay so I'm now trying the friendica server anonsys.net. Currently inviting y'all to follow. Once I settle on a good instance I will delete the others. Sorry about the constant invites.

Hey y'all across the fediverse. I'm looking for a platform instance that is reliable and supports more than 500 character posts, I guess #pleroma, #friendica, diaspora? I like #friendica but the instances I've tried are suffering performance wise and are unusable.

Interested in anyone's […]

I hope this doesn't happen, but wouldn't surprise me at the rate Trump is going he's going to try and make NASA change up the Artemis crew on the basis this was a "DEI" hire, or some crap like that.

The use of publicly accessible (but copyrighted) material for AI training wouldn't rankle so much if the same companies weren't so protective of IP in other arms of their enterprise. For ex. allowing spurious Content ID claims on youtube.

If we are going to usher in a new age of free use of […]

So this is interesting, I'm noticing on most of the activitypub instances I'm using (actually all but it's only three) there appear to be resource issues, aka slow performance. I wonder how admins generally are coping and whether this is due to an influx of META users?

Dear Mastodon friends - I have started a profile on friendica called techlife.my-place.social. If you see a friend/follow request from him, it's me! If you follow, I can keep up with your posts even when I'm posting on friendica.

Jay Graber did do work in the crypto field, not sure how that makes her a grifter, but anyhoo, there is zero sign, and Bluesky and Jay have expressly rejected using blockchain for social media protocols hence why we have atproto. I don't think it follows that she is a crypto grifter. Happy to […]

With what is happening with tiktok now, both it's banning, and now potential broligarchy takeover, I think we need a concerted effort to integrate the best of both activitypub and atproto into one social media network standard and break free.

This 100%. It's time for governments to take a role in promoting and supporting decentralised properly portable social media accounts (at the moment than means atproto over activitypub but honestly either is better than nothing). Funding for non-profits to achieve this

Thi is something many people don't realise. Even if you don't use Meta services at all, every time you visit a website that is part of the Meta ad network, certain info you share with that site is collect and given to meta.
Fed up with Meta? Avoiding Instagram or Facebook isn’t enough to stop Meta from harvesting and profiting from your private information. Here’s how to limit Meta’s ability to monetize your personal data.

Friendica seems to be a viable alternative to Facebook, with a groups feature (I'm yet to try it myself - I think it works somewhat like a mailing list) and no character limit on posts. I'll give my full analysis once I've used it more consistently, but I'm keen to have an alternative to […]
