As someone who lives in Chicago, no idea. There's so much more we could be doing with that money.

Once in California, once in Chicago. Both times it was because the post office wasn't delivering packages to my address, and both times the congresscritter started an investigation and got the issue resolved. For both I never spoke to my rep, just their staff.

I am so disappointed in what remains of hacker culture

Yup, it's absolutely ridiculous that this is happening

These sites only help a little because DHS is turning off their transponders when they fly. That's why there's a bunch of signal chats doing helicoptor watch.

Pretty similar vibes- I love the colors in the backgound and want to keep that kind of "synthwave-meets-bisexual-pride" feel. Outside of that I'm just older than I was when I got it (and with less hair). I'm open to style changes (I feel the current one without hair would make my head look huge).

There are services which depend on us-east-1 even if everything else is in another region. DynamoDB global tables went down. IAM globally failed. Lots of people had no idea they were relying on the region because AWS doesn't exact make it clear how their "global" services work.

It was $30k out of pocket for a family member of mine to go just the once. It might also be the only reason they're still alive.

I personally avoid the global services (dynamodb global, aurora global, cloudfront altogether) and manage my own failover.

That said, the main reason to use AWS is that GCP is awful and Azure has even worse limitations. Plus AWS will bribe startups with six figures in credits to start with them.

DynamoDB global tables failing was a huge blow, since it's advertised as a way to enable fail over and instead just ended up being another way to bring everything down.
