McLuhan’s book ‘From Cliche to Archetype’ is organized as a selective “abecedary” beginning with “Absurd, Theatre of the” and ending (prior to Notes on Sources) with a closing entry on Theatre. The second to last entry is Table of Contents, filed under T, on pages 192, 193.

“Giedion approaches the entire manmade environment as architecture… this anonymous history tends to be ‘invisible’… The counterenvironments created by the artist serve to raise these hidden environments to the level of conscious appreciation.” - Marshall McLuhan, From Cliche to Archetype (1970), p77

“One of the techniques of the poet and the artist, it has been pointed out, is to contrive situations that will dislocate the mind into awareness.” - Marshall McLuhan (paraphrasing Viktor Shklovsky without acknowledgement), ‘From Cliche to Archetype’, p63)
