You can complain to 311 and DCWP is supposed to investigate. Unclear if anything ever comes of it. 311 does not share any info after you submit the complaint. I’m not hopeful anyone in city gov cares.

I actually knew someone in the 5% there who walked to that station, and it’s good to hike prices on parking instead of further soaking that 5%. Maybe that 5% would become 10% from the marginal folks who are kinda walking distance but drive!

You can interpret that response as “We don’t want to talk publicly about wages! We want to frame this in the context of patient care and nurse safety!” — she’s describing their public messaging strategy, not a statement of fact about demands at the bargaining table. “Don’t bargain in public,” right?

There’s this whole genre of Dubai content on social media that’s being pushed on me. Every time I open instagram it’s something about how you can forget your handbag on a railing in a Dubai mall and no one will steal it. The world is scary and Dubai is safety.

Where do you draw the line on automation and why? When 8- and 10-car trains started people were scared and swore they needed 2 conductors per train, until the TA won the right to phase out the 2nd conductor in 1958. Do you think that was a mistake? Do you think we should bring them back?

Don’t forget that some of the speed improvement gets eaten up by longer dwell time since the drivers are less pressured to keep to schedule so they just idle at the stops for longer and just generally drive less aggressively. There’s some Parkinson’s law at play.

Early in the discussion of OMNY farecapping they made mention of 30-day unlimiteds being bad due to people selling swipes, and they had toyed with putting limits on the use of unlimiteds because of that. I think that was a motivation. Also they just love TfL, right? (All the wrong lessons from it.)

But does the short notice actually come from Alstom, the firm that the PA paid to design, build, and operate the AirTrain? Does their contract have any performance standards? Are the public allowed to know any of this?

Child poverty has suburbanized since then for sure, but the child poverty rate is still higher in central cities than it is in suburbs in the US. It’s not true that most urban neighborhoods are wealthier than most suburbs. What’s true is that most Americans of all incomes live in the suburbs.

I’m skeptical that these are replacing car trips as much as they’re replacing walking trips. We’re so spread out and lazy that we need smaller autos to motor around the places it’s less feasible to squeeze the SUVs.
