On the eternal hunt for the next so bad it’s good movie.
Looking forward to the absolute worst opinion pieces by establishment Dems about the NYC mayoral race in defence of Cuomo’s campaign pointing to the number of Republicans that voted for him—ignoring how that would be the most impossible thing to replicate anywhere else…and that Trump endorsed him.

Me, thinking about the good things that happened last night:

I find this is particularly difficult with discussions around “friction” in the player experience. For AAA games, in particular. Executives or directors basing huge changes on negative or lukewarm feedback when some level of that response is expected in the designated player fantasy.
One of the most important jobs of a designer is understanding that there are some things that everyone says they want, but then absolutely hate if they get it

I thought with the Canadian election settled that my anxieties on the home front would ease a little in this tumultuous world.

But, every time I look out my window, I see a crow nesting in the tree across the street, forewarning me of the Hitchcockian nightmares brewing beneath the floorboards.

I’m so tired of Star Wars sequels.
SpaceX is a top contender for Trump’s “Golden Dome” defense project: a trillion-dollar air defense system known officially as the “Iron Dome for America,” which the president claims would protect the U.S. from missile strikes.

Since Eagles are on everybody’s mind today, I’m sitting over here thinking about this classic video from early YouTube.

Always loved the idea of a slow burn horror game that played on the structure of Harvest Moon and the like.

The first year, you learn about all the festivals and meet all the townsfolk. But, each year after that, someone goes missing and the festivals start to reveal about the local customs.

The biggest mismanagement step that I’ve seen in games over and over is ramping up a project too soon. You end up with too many people working at a time when a project should be the most nimble—but this is often a major issue because leadership is chasing fidelity too soon.
Why do video games cost so much to make these days? A recent NYT article pinned bloated budgets on the graphical arms race, but that's only a small part of the equation. The real problem? Rampant mismanagement.

This week's column is a spicy one: www.bloomberg.com/news/newslet...
Why So Many Video Games Cost So Much to Make
Graphical fidelity is only part of the reason that game budgets have swelled to hundreds of millions of dollars

Unsolved Mysteries may be the only TV show that I think you could argue is improved by being on a streaming service when compared to a physical copy?

They are still updating episodes with new information about cases—I just saw a 2022 update to an episode that aired in 1996.

At some point, The Rock ceased being a human and became the world’s first living advertisement. He seems to have so many product placement deals ingrained into his daily life and things to promo that he literally cannot talk about anything but them.

For example:

Today I learned that when you publish a pdf via Word to a local folder that is connected to OneDrive, it will overwrite the Cloud version first, then update the local version afterwards. So much for catching that typo before sending the document 🙃

Far from the most important point here but…

“Mislead,” we meet again. Ironic that this is the word they all seem to collectively mess up.

Just so stuck in the past that they can’t use past tense.
Yeah calling your daughters mentally ill on the internet will totally win them back 👍👍👍

Not a lawyer, but Musk loses in all situations here? If Twitter owns every account and their posts, that could break the liability protections that the DMCA affords sites in the case of user posted copyright infringement. All those posted movies on the site are now all potential lawsuits? 🤔
Elon Musk's legal filing in the InfoWars bankruptcy case is both batshit crazy and also what you'd expect. It asserts that X owns every account, can do whatever it wants with them, and can inject itself into legal proceedings that have nothing to do with Twitter

Subtext implies the existence of Supertext: the overt reinforcement and added exposition of details already made Text by the work.
November 18, 2024 at 1:46 AM
Beyond the cultural aspect, there’s almost a fully reinforced loop that makes studios less likely to explore new mechanics outside shooting. For example:

- It’s a known market quantity
- “This is what we know how to make.”
- Assuming that X mechanic can’t be made into a systemic loop like combat

In a show that has the line, “They’re making some sort of bee tornado,” the most insane dialogue so far is a character describing men’s comfort in coming out of the closet in terms of pre and post Glee.

Didn’t need to look up the creators to know what other shows they had made.
November 12, 2024 at 2:08 AM
Never seen any of the show 9-1-1 before, but saw the description of an episode that said, “A trailer with millions of bees crashes on the street” and figured it was worth a shot…Reader, I was not prepared for just how crazy the first 5 minutes would be.
