Huge moment of pride to watch my first PhD student Keren Klass present the years of genetic data from her PhD and postdoc showing that black howler #gene #flow in #fragmented #landscapes is counterintuitively increased, while #microbiome tracks diets

My amazing master’s student, Coco Tucker-Gritt, is applying her superior art skills to the walls of the research station now!! The vervets keep sniffing and calling to the these new wall monkeys, but they never respond! 🤣

Ah yes! I saw that a lot. Very odd. I always thought the infants were going to get injured too!! They were grimacing and squealing most of the time and seemed scared. Perhaps this acted as an appeasement gesture..? 🤷‍♀️

Another cool primate infant article by Sam Stead, @teichroeb-lab.bsky.social on this bizarre (in the best way) species of black & white colobus. When mothers are better fed, they divert more energy to lactation and infants can reach independence earlier! 🧪🐒

We suggest that when moms can divert more #energy to infants via #lactation, infants are independent earlier, benefiting both! 2/2

There are 2 previous historical cases of countries destroying their science and universities, crippling them for decades: Lysenkoism in the USSR and Nazi Germany. The Trump administration will be the 3rd.
It's not just budgets but research, institutions, expertise, and training the next generation.
Graphs showing 25 years of budgets for the National Institute of Health, NASA, and the NSF. In all cases, the proposed budget for next year is far, far below any year of the previous quarter century.
