Why does India struggle to birth the next Postgres or Nginx? I used to blame it on lack of imagination or just the will to innovate.

But maybe it’s simpler: the fight for survival always prioritizes subsistence. In such a world, non-essential innovation always takes a back seat.

I feel like all the "next-big-thing" tech in the last couple of years has done more damage than good directly or indirectly

Web services - excessive ads, subscription models, always online
Crypto, NFT - scams, GPUs overpriced
LLMs - slop, circular funding, RAM and SSDs overpriced

The number of new questions asked on StackOverflow has almost reached zero.

Sure LLMs have replaced SO to a major extent, but then how do you train these LLMs if there isn't any new original content to scrape?

IMO the three 50 MP back cameras on Nothing Phone 3 feel more consistent than the ones on Pixel 7 Pro. I always felt P7P screwed up processing on the telephoto lens
