I'm all for bad turns, as long as that bad turn was a result of my choices as opposed to being purely a result of randomness. I can learn from my actions and feel like I can make better choices for a better outcome, but with pure randomness, I start feeling like I'm just a spectator.

I've always loved the notion that with enough belief and effort you can turn almost any pile of "junk" into a pretty cool orky model. As well as helping keep in mind the old adage of "perfect is the enemy of good". Your creations don't need perfection; janky is great.

Curious about other people's thoughts on the concept of narrative integration into games. I love abstract games and those heavy games where the theme comes last as much as anyone. But there is something about games where the theme is baked in at the core that I truly love.

Fantastic Four was the best movie version of those characters I've seen, but at the same time, the story didn't really resonate beyond the end credits. And I didn't feel connected to the characters.
Gunn is just better at writing dialogue and events that make me want to see more of his characters.

James Gunn continues to prove that he is the best writer/director of superhero-themed cinema. Partially because he respects the source material, both for its drama and its goofiness. He also has no problem tweaking things to ensure he's telling a good story.

Was introduced to him via a Dr. Demento Record back in the early 90s, and fell in love with his stuff. Though, to be honest I hadn't realized he was still alive either.

So do I. I've done a few panels on game design in general, as well as on crowdfunding. And I was in a workshop where we touched on this a few years ago. But this will be the first time I'll be guiding novices through these sorts of concepts.

One thing we do at our events is have anonymous feedback sheets that attendees fill out when they test. Then we do giveaways of donated games and game-related items at the end of each event. An idea I actually borrowed from a Dallas-based group.
