Portability is a feature, and not all projects need it.

Instead of preparing for a future that might never come (switching the DB that the bank has been using for 20 years), you are better off getting the most out of your current technology stack.

This is absurdly great, but I haven't read a single news article about it. A fully open source, offline-first alternative to Notion that's a collab between the French and German governments because they want to host docs securely and on their own terms. THIS is what Europe should be doing.

Real peace is when you turn off the battery percentage and stop stressing over how fast it’s draining.

Fun fact: DuckDB is faster at counting the lines of a CSV file than the UNIX word count command – and it also parses the file to identify its dialect (separator, quote character, etc.).

Here are the timings for a 3 GB CSV file: 2.966 seconds for `wc -l` and 1.261 seconds for DuckDB.

Need a pretty printer for your app logs? Pipe them into jq! 🛠️ grep '{' as a lazy way to filter only json formatted logs

So what's the hack to bookmark stuff here?
Can we please stop with the scroll-jacking carousels on websites?

CSS Scroll Snap is a much better solution!

Re-built the Uniqlo home page with 6 lines of CSS and 4 lines of JS

this package has been a total game-changer for me any any web based app I build. Adding icons to my projects is so effortless now, and honestly, I can’t start a new project without it. If you haven’t tried it yet, you’re missing out: www.npmjs.com/package/@uno...

I love building interfaces! But as a backend-focused dev (Python & Node), my UIs often end up looking super technical.

What’s your top advice for creating better UIs?

Besides sw dev, I’m really into self-hosting. Currently running everything on an old Esprimo Q520 I picked up refurbished in 2021, and it’s the ideal mix of power and low energy. Handles a dozen Docker containers deployed with @coolify.io/portainer. Wild how much you can do with smth under €150!

better late than never so

Hey Bluesky 👋 Andrei here (or Tere) – software engineer, code nerd, and F1 fan. Lately I'm amazed by #duckdb but python and javascript (both frontend and backend) are part of my toolkit.

Sometimes I have things to share on my website: tere.ro
