It’s a much more pervasive issue than just that, unfortunately. There are far too many kids-primarily boys-taught that they are entitled to whatever they want because the moment they get upset, mommy steps in to attack whoever made them cry. This then can turn into a manipulation tactic.

There is a reason I write trolls the way I do. The context of their society is vastly different from our own to the core, for all the parallels that one may be able to draw between the two. Is this part of why I am so protective of Dirk and Vriska? Perhaps…
