Players making decisions Chapter 8 takeaway

1) You don't need to ask for or sign NDA when discussing game idea
2) What if idea shared is something they already working on?
3) Ideas are cheap (yes, even yours best idea)
4) You pay money for end-product, not idea

Players making decisions, Chapter 7 takeaway

1) goal of playtesting is not for players to have fun, it is gather data
2) avoid explaining the game or helping testers - you won't be able to do it for real player
3) self-playtesting is helpful but limited

Players Making Decisions, Chapter 6 takeaways:

- There’s no Unit-test to check if the game is “fun”
- Test the game with actual players
- Don't be afraid of negative feedback (it helps to improve)
- be wary if no negative feedback, all games have something to fix!

I guess Unity will never learn...

It is not like they ask for too much.

But they continue to change the rules for existing customer and that's really bad

Well either godot or gamemaker then

Hollow knight is one of those games that I didn't like playing on X-BOX

BUT LOOOOOVE playing on #Switch

I think this is due to "Expectation" trap - #XBOX is "AAA" area, so indie platformer, however awesome it does not click
#Nintendo Switch is the other story though

"Player making decisions" Chapter 5 Summary

1) Focuses on paper prototypes
2) Use whatever tool that does the job
3) Avoid polishing prototypes
- you may struggle to delete things that don’t work later
4) If you can't do art - use icons, texts or shapes

YouTube sent me an email announcing "cool" AI built in tools in shorts editor

Do they realise that we watched videos to know what happened, not what some sick LLM hallucinated?

I am learning, hobby, solo indie, grumpindie middle aged dude, OK?

I am not going to make a fortune from making Pacman remakes (even though it wouldn't hurt, prices are up, salaries not so)

So each game - is about learning something.

My struggle with "Angry dudes!" was an important lesson - even simple games are more complex than they seem

While my intent was not properly understood, it was still very useful learning experience

My "failure" to publish "Asteroids but bad" game, wasn't a failure.

The problem statement for this game was "make a complete game with all basic necessary elements, so it is a releasable"

Achieved, 100%

But also learned touchscreen and basic game making

So a couple of days ago I posted about struggling to decide btwn finishing games and/or starting smth new.

With ur help (u r awesome, btw!) and with "Player Making Decisions" book I finally was able to get it:

Testing some ideas for a potential game soundtrack

In this Video:
1) AI-generated “game” footage
2) Original track I’m building
3) Logic session footage

Does this feel like actual game music, or just random noise with drums?

So I completed "Terminator 2d"

It is amazing how single game could be awesome and dull at the same time.

It is awesome to play; but it feels unnecessarily rushed and short

What do you think?

So u learn how to gamedev, do art and music, u put ur very soul and limited time to make something meaningful

And then AI comes in.

Is it too difficult for corps to understand that they only piss us off?

It is like saying to Jackie Chan "now you don't need to do stunts"

Fellow (struggling) YouTubers:

Whoever tells you that if you "apply the formula" and you "will succeed" is full of crap.

Think about it: there's limited number of users who have limited amount of time to consume your content, and there's already too much content for a lifetime. #youtubestruggle

Your goal is to make playable prototype.

It is essential to focus on it rather than details

Chapter 2 and 3 of “Players Making Decisions” in one takeaway:

- problem statement is what helps you to build better games

Example of good problem statement:
"What it could be like 'play' a movie"

This creates mechanics blueprints
