Unashamed fan of loud shouty music. Not left-wing, not right-wing, not too fond of historical or present day fascists.
We were all having constant infections before Covid too. Aren’t you being a little over the top? We have never been in a situation like 2020/2021

Lack of investment in frontline services by govts is a major contributor. Old/vulnerable people are always going to get infected. HC capacity is key

I agree about masking in hospitals during flu season, but I don’t think masking would have prevented the current flu wave. It is certainly true that the initial response covid inc masks and lockdowns essentially flat lined flu (better than Covid) but that ship has sailed, like it or not.

We can’t rule out that Covid has changed the susceptibility to flu in some, but if it has it will be for a complex reason that will involve underlying genetics and heath status of those individuals. The most important thing you can do for those people is make sure they are vaccinated

SARS CoV-2 doesn’t infect T cells

We can under certain conditions that ‘may’ exist in vivo infect macrophages, but these conditions would exist in the majority of people who get COVID and get better.

By all means mask up, but vaccines that protect against severe illness changed the risk balance

But all this ‘airborne aids’ crap that was pushed around earlier in the pandemic is all simplistic nonsense.

It’s just that SC2 was a brand new virus that hit an entire naive adult population, with all their underlying health issues.

With respect to SARS2 damaging the immune system. This is a complex issue of cause and effect. Post viral syndromes like long covid and chronic fatigue syndrome are real and have a at least some basis in immune dysregulation, but I don’t believe SC2 is special in this regard….

The major reason that we are having a bad flu season is that the circulating H3N2 variant has picked up enough antigenic drift mutations to be poorly covered by previous virus or vaccine-induced immunity. This is inevitable and a season’s vaccine content is based on a best guess from surveillance.

He gave an interview to Sharri Markson in the CSHL library without permission, implying CSHL authority on the matter. Kinney withdrew himself after this because he was given a stark choice. Do this, or stay at CSHL, but you can’t do both.

Aspirations aren’t the same as policy details on HOW these things will be done.
