I and friends will be at a #PrehistoricPlanetIceAge screening this Wednesday and I'm thinking of sharing things live from the event...

A section of this oak has grown outwards into Peartree Avenue and supports giant beefsteak fungus. Fortunately the council have modified the road to allow space for the tree (and the fungi), a rare win.

Nighttime trees on the green island next to the A road. I found a baby squirrel's head there once.

We have our first ice of late 2025, in the antique bucket. Bonus shot of the garden, which is deliberately designed for wildlife.

The UK's biggest and best dinosaur-themed event - #DinoConUK - happens July 25th-26th at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole. Tickets aren't yet on sale but places for accommodation are, and we're taking vendor applications too. Put it in the diary now, we can't wait to see you!

That Spinosaurus - it's now called Spinofaarus, for reasons - is from All Your Yesterdays, an unofficial sequel to All Yesterdays! It has its own life, and here's a model of it in my collection...

Have learnt from Andrea Cau that French palaeontologist Philippe Taquet died yesterday, aged 85. Taquet published a substantial amount on north African and French #dinosaurs, including Ouranosaurus, spinosaurids, the dromaeosaurid Pyroraptor and much more.

I had to rearrange the top shelf of cabinet 2. This was partly to make space for the ReptiMax Rubidgea but... I've ended up mostly obscuring it, d'oh. And... another glyptodont!

Over 1 million views (currently over 1.1 million) for the #PrehistoricPlanetIceAge images I've shared at Instagram. Debuts on #AppleTV Nov 26th, a stunning and definitive vision created by #BBCStudios, you're going to love it. Am attending screening events, can't wait.

That'll do for now. I wrote about The Great Dinosaur Discoveries when it was new in 2009 but I feel the need to write a longer introspective sometime soon. It's available from online sellers at very low prices, and scores 4.8 out of 5 at amazon. #books

I remain really happy with the treatment we gave of some of my favourite stories, like the 1980s discovery and recognition of #Baryonyx and #Carnotaurus. And we got great pictures for those sections. Cont...

In general, my ideas for spreads worked out and we were able to procure good and appropriate images (see the Megalosaurus example here). But sometimes we couldn't get good images: I don't like what we have on the Scolosaurus spread (where it's called Euoplocephalus, of course). Cont...

I'm pleased that we were also able to use additional images by Luis Rey and Julius Csotonyi, which help give the later chapters of GDD a more modern look... cont

Every book, every project is a compromise restricted by funds and time. In this case, we were stuck with using the 1990s illustrations of Steve Kirk, which are very good but technically dated. So we had to modify them digitally in an effort to bring them up to speed, with variable success... cont

The book goes through chunks of history, chapter by chapter, the intro to each featuring maps and timelines. I like historical overviews of this sort and few have done it before (David Lambert's Dinosaur Data Book does, but in a very different way). And here's a simple cladogram... cont
