Visited all TX State Parks Open as of 2/2024 🥳
Obsessive amateur photographer 📸
This is a reminder to thank your National Park Staff and Rangers.

I visited Carlsbad Caverns on Wednesday and am always impressed by their knowledge and passion for the park. Even in these times when the administration is trying to cut it down.

Texas has been in an extreme drought for the last few years now. Even with all of the rain we still have a long way to go before our lakes fill up...

But, here's one.

Green photo: 5/2025
Beige: 3/2023

I was told the water was even worse earlier this year. There was more dirt showing than water.

An airbnb out in Greeneville last weekend. It was all gray clouds except for about 2 hours right when the sun starting setting.

I was hoping to get some night photos but as I was walking outside clouds had already started taking over the little bit of starry sky left.

I don't have enough letters to describe this... so the first Pic is about the Kaufman County Poor Farm I visited

I visited Kaufman TX and they have a war memorial in their city by a poor farm.

I sat by the list of WW2 people and just asked "What would you do today?" They can't talk, but there was a different type of melancholy filling the air this time.

Our ancestors must be looking down at us and crying.

I'm trying to keep this page from being political... but, it is about Nature, and Trump is trying to say we need to be self sufficient by making no one want to trade with us. This means we need more wood so we're not dependent on Canada. Where do we get it from? National parks. State parks. ...

This was taken with a Seestar S50. A lunar eclipse is not nearly as uncommon as a solar eclipses, but it is still awesome to see.

I was looking up how other cultures looked at the blood moon...

Incan and Mesopotomian cultures believed it was the end of a king... sooooo...

In my "cling to all things joyful"
Please see the Cedar Waxwing. These migrate through TX every spring and I have looked forward to seeing them every year as they settle into the trees around my apartment.
I had 4 days of going out to find them in the trees and hearing their distinctive whistle...

I headed out to Kaufman last Saturday. I had to be in Terrell and decided I'd take a night to just unwind before work gets busy.

I loved seeing the stars reflecting in the pond below.

I ended up staring into the sky like every trip and as usual contemplating where the heck we're going.

There's a current conversation about airbnb. Go to a hotel people say. Find it on Vrbo. There's so many fees and rules.

If you do airbnb support farms and unique experiences. Look for comments about dark skies or a country experience. Leave reviews about surprises so future people know (1/?)

I was taking photos and did not know this one was going to be there.

This was at a pond at an airbnb I stayed at this weekend. I got to pet a pot belly pig and some horses.

How do you process the world falling into chaos?

Me? I run away to the country. Sometimes I'm quieting my mind. Sometimes I'm contemplating the world. Sometimes I'm mourning. Many times it's a little bit of everything.

This is an airbnb in Paluxy TX.

Happy Valentine's Day!

This is a pic from 2021. I still find it amusing they made a heart shaped nest.

Have you ever looked up the history of Valentine's Day?

Lupercalia may be one of the influences for why it exists...

See the second pic for a description about it.

Letter limitations suck.

All right. Now a real first post.

Hi!

I'm your local amateur adventurer and photographer.

I run around taking pictures of nature, old, and abandoned things.

I'm an accountant despite hating numbers. I'm also queer, atheist, in between a liberal and leftist, and an exvangelical.

So, yeah. Hi!

I was told I needed to post something, so here we go.

Really looking forward to what ever the creators of Blue Sky has for a photo app so I can drop Zuc for good.

I hear there's some issues with photos here... so please excuse the obnoxious watermarks 😆
