10/4 6:40PM: Tule Fire west of Silverton in the Panhandle is 3,500 acres and 50% contained. The Simonsville Fire, located west of Loyal Valley, southeast of Mason, is 150 acres in size, with multiple firefighting aircraft engaged.

Today marks three months since a major flooding tragedy struck the Hill Country. At least 119 people lost their lives in Kerr County alone. The search continues for Cile Steward and Jeffrey Ramsey. Rebuilding will continue for a long time 😢

It’s October, but Texas is still living like it’s August. Highs in the 90s, very little rain, and rising wildfire danger across the east and southeast. Will we finally see a break next week?

Still feels like August out there, even though the calendar says October. Most of Texas stays hot and dry today, but there’s a chance for a few storms Friday in Central & South Texas. Fire danger is rising in the southeast half of the state, and the tropics are active (but no impact for Texas).

Texas isn’t exactly rushing into fall this year. We’re starting October with August-style weather — hot afternoons, very limited rain, and an increasing wildfire danger across the southeast half of the state. A rogue shower or two is possible along the coast and in the Panhandle.
