Hi everyone! We've revamped our old event infographic for those who've never participated before, or are just wondering what a Big Bang is. Sign-ups for this year's event are open now, and will stay open until March. We hope to see new and old faces alike when the discord goes live this weekend! ✨

The First Big Bang Fandom Bangs are a longstanding fandom tradition, dating back to ye olden times of 2005 when the very first Big Bang was banged. That’s twenty years and counting! The original Bang, the “Big Bang, Baby Challenge”, was invitation only, focused on a particular ship (Draco Malfoy/Harry Potter) and the minimum word count was 50k. Other people thought this was a really neat idea, so they started organizing Bangs for their own fandoms. Why the Name? Originally, the title was meant to invoke the chemistry between the characters being shipped. Before long, people were reinterpreting the name for their own fandom events. Over time, it’s come to refer more commonly to the explosion of novel-length, illustrated fics that Big Bangs generate. Banging in the Modern Age Big Bangs today are a little different. They’re usually open invitation, and the minimum word counts are often much shorter. Our first year was only 10K, and this year we’re up to 20k!* In the end, the goal is the same: to create a massive influx of complete, illustrated longfics, which drop all at once with a BANG. *Mini-bangs have even smaller requirements, with participants creating a fic totalling a few thousand words, and artists illustrating one piece. **There are also Reverse Big Bangs, where artists create their pieces first, and writers base their fics off of them. Why Bang? Meet the community! Embrace the opportunity to become involved with the wider Transformers creative fandom. Collaborate! Make something fun and exciting together with new friends. This is a chance to expand your creative horizons. Challenge yourself! Write that long fic you’ve always been dreaming of. Draw something you might not have come up with on your own! Step 3: The ficcer writes a fic that meets the word count and kicks ass. Step 4: The artist creates the required number of illustrations for it, which ALSO kick ass. Step 5: Participants post their fic and art all at the same time, creating an EXPLOSION of new kickass content. Step 6: Everyone profits—even the people who didn’t participate. You Mentioned Something About a Transformers Big Bang Hell yeah we did. This infographic is brought to you by the mod team of last year’s Transformers Big Bang—now in its fourth year! Last Year We did things a little differently. The TF Reverse Mini-Bang produced 99 fics and 152 artworks for the Transformers fandom, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. This year we’re back to the regular format, and we hope to be even Bigger and Bangier. How do I participate? Sign-ups are officially open! They’ll remain open for writers until March 2nd, and for artists and beta readers until March 16th. Our creation period will run nearly all year, until the posting dates in early November. It's time to share the statistics from our first ever Reverse Mini-Bang! For the 2024 event, we’re choosing to highlight all of the fantastic art that inspired our writers to create a flood of amazing fics ✨
General stats: Number of artists: 96 Artworks created: 152 Number of fics: 99 Art stats: Full illustrations: 113 Doodles: 3 Comic pages: 36 A pie chart that shows characters by faction. 59.5% Autobots, 29.6% Decepticons, 10.9% other. Our artists drew 281 characters total across all of their artworks! One one side of the slide is a poster titled The Other Guys, with two transformers' heads edited onto the leaping human bodies, who are holding guns. The other side says: collector's delight! Characters like Rosanna, Hardhead, Streetwise and other usually side-lined characters got to shine as main characters this year!

Hi all! Here's the timeline for the 2025 event, which will ask writers to create a fic with a minimum word count of 20k, and artists for 2 accompanying artworks. An updated rules and FAQ will follow later this week and outline the scope of the event in more detail.
Sign-ups open: Feb 1 Discord goes live: Feb 22 Writer sign-ups close: March 2 Artist sign-ups close: March 16 First check-in (writers only): Apr 6 Writers must have a full outline completed by this date. What that outline looks like may vary by writer, but should show the mods that you have a clear plan for your work. Fic summaries are also due, to be used for prompt selection by artists. Artist choice period: April 7 - April 13 Match-ups announced: April 14 Second check-in: April 20 Mods will privately check in to answer any questions or concerns, to make sure that partner contact has been established, and that writers have shared materials with their artist so that they may start working on their pieces. Third Check-in: June 1 Writers must have at least 25% of their fic finished. Artists must have at least one sketch finished. Fourth check-in: July 20 Writers must have at least half of their fic finished. Artists must have at least one artwork lined/coloured. Fifth check-in: September 7 Writers must have at least 75% of their fic finished. Artists must have one artwork finished, and at least a sketch for the 2nd. This is the last opportunity to drop from the event without penalty. Finished works due: October 19 Pinch hit period: October 20 - November 4 Pinch hitters will have ~two weeks to complete their work. If participants wish to add a few finishing touches/edits to their works, they may use this time to do so. Mods will preview fic and art on socials. Posting period: November 5 - 9 There will be a five day posting period. Writers and artists are expected to post their works in their entirety during this period. You may post your work all at once or in chunks, but the piece should be fully posted by 11:59PM PST on November 9th.
