Don't forget the industrial fire smoke warning.

Vic emergency says under control now. Maybe less spicy than the average western industrial fire.

Are we taking bets on what hazardous thing they were illegally stockpiling here?
January 9, 2026 at 3:14 AM
I'm surprised only 1/3 of the state is total fire ban.

I wish that was last week when I caught a redeyish flight to NZ with a south facing window seat. Was a pretty sweet sunset anyway.

And who says austerity doesn't work?

Alternatively, public space shouldnt be monopolised to store privately owned transport. Realistically if there is more demand for parking than can be provided for, you have to find some way to get an equilibrium.
December 19, 2025 at 3:36 AM
Are they accepting of paying for parking in general? Or is that also part of the issue?

Hooray for dry at least!

They've definitely done drills with full ambulances in the veloway. It remains to be seen if that helps when the ambos who get called weren't the ones on the drill and are just trying to handle it the best they can x hours into their shift.

I did see a photo of the control room on an MP's socials. Looks like they have one camera view of the veloway. Presumably rotating through.

I thought the bit just before Williamstown Rd going westbound was kind of nice looking north yesterday evening. Definitely not tranquil though.

I think it took me into my 30s to learn to cook steak that well.

And yeah, fuck car doors. I've had other riders criticise me for riding too far to the right of the bike lane on Somerville rd, but I'm not going near those doors if I can avoid it.
December 9, 2025 at 5:43 AM
Yeah, I'm looking forward to that. I very occasionally drive my kid to the doctor on Anderson St and do everything possible to avoid crossing the train tracks because it's stressful. I just hope they can make the two sides feel connected for pedestrians and let bikes pass without lame dismount signs
December 9, 2025 at 5:40 AM
It should definitely be better, but I've mostly found that route pretty safe, maybe because I ride it at quiet times. What sort of incidents did you encounter?
December 9, 2025 at 5:34 AM
Maybe @cameronwilson.bsky.social isn't a real person and the age verification AI is just smarter than us.

I read someone rode it last night and said the lighting is good. The bits I've seen before it opened look good. Though as soon as you hit the moonee ponds trail there isn't any lighting or on the bridge across the old Costco.

It's interesting how cheap the ACC levy is compared to our TAC levy which naively seems like the coverage is similar enough. It depends on a bunch of stuff but it's 500+ a year here.

Will have to check it out if they're open around Xmas.
November 24, 2025 at 10:03 PM
Oh damn, I hadn't read that anywhere. Just more bureaucracy? Or cancelled?
