It's not modern by any means, but I had a copy of The Children's Homer (Iliad + Odyssey) by Padraig Colum when I was growing up in the 90s. Illustrations for that edition I think by Barry Moser. Looks like the recommended reading age is 10-14, though I'm not sure how accessible if language is now.

This is so gorgeous! Luckily it turns out Waterstones ships to Europe, so I've now bought myself an early Christmas present! 😊 So excited to read it.
