A lot of people in this story had no trouble seeing a 14 or 15 y.o. FEMALE CHILD as fair game, if for no other reason than our culture reinforces that view.

Clearly my experience of Covid — mostly that it was an inconvenience — was very different from a friend’s in Pittsburgh, whose life was upended when her husband was diagnosed w/liver cancer in 2021 — he’d been having issues since 2020 but put off going to a doc b/c Covid. 1/2
