Long story, but an ex of mine played one of those NFT/crypto games. I was absolutely baffled when she explained it to me. I told her there was no possible way that a game that cost $800 in NFTs just to play was sustainable, but she ignored me. It tanked about a month after I broke up with her.

My favorite thing about Triscuits is that no one could remember why they were called that, so someone tracked down the earliest advertisement for them and discovered it's short for "Electric Biscuits". Because electric ovens were an exciting new thing at the time.

Apparently the songwriters wrote the music for season 3 of Only Murders?

Dealing with inventory is already usually my least favorite part of games. Having to manage an inventory of items to figure out what other items I can make (and then have to manage) is just making the misery recursive.

I've seen it said that libertarians are just "conservatives who want to smoke pot", which is of course reductive, dismissive, and from my experience true more often than not.

It says a lot about how informed the public is that "would rather have a beer with" was the talking point frequently cited in favor of a man who is a recovering alcoholic.

The wilder part is, assuming they're operating the puppet the way they normally do, the right hand is being operated by someone different from the rest of the puppet.

Arrested for more crimes, sure. Commit far more crimes? Very doubtful. If you have a disparity that large, there almost assuredly needs to be imbalance in how crimes are being enforced. What that tells me is that officers are more willing to arrest immigrants, and judges are more willing to convict.

With numbers like that you should really be considering biases in your criminal justice system rather than assuming that immigrants are criminals.

It's definitely a work where you need a footnote explaining why you appreciate it, because it can swing in wildly different directions.

(I'm firmly in the "it's a cautionary tale of how a charismatic leader can exploit male insecurity and toxic masculinity" camp, myself.)

The Prelude expansion speeds things up by a round or two. I don't recommend using any of the other expansions though.

It also depends on the group a bit. Newer players tend to focus too much on engine building and not enough on pushing the endgame.

Related: If your players are really off-track on something, sometimes it's better to just pivot so they were right all along.

They just wasted a half hour planning for some contingency you never intended on happening? Make it actually happen, so now they feel clever that they took that time.

A "subdivision" (the title and topic of that song) is not the same thing as a "suburb".

When he says "garage door opener", he's talking about the motorized unit that does the actual opening, not the button panel you use to activate it.

If you don't know the difference, you probably have a normal one, not a wall-mount one.

My favorite example of this is how the meaning of "Nimrod" changed entirely because kids didn't get the reference when Bugs Bunny said it.

There are some cases where the US cover art was better.

"X-COM: Terror from the Deep" comes to mind.

E.g., someone made a post about how the drawer at the bottom of your oven isn't for storage, it's for keeping food warm. Now I see people repeating that all the time. Except for most ovens it really is just a storage drawer. The warming thing is only on a few fancy ovens most people don't have.

I've recognized this whole genre of Internet post along the format of "you've misunderstood this common thing your whole life", and it's very successful because people like to repeat these revelations to feel smart, but 95% of the time it's nonsense and they were right the first time.

The Midwest is one of the four US Census regions, and makes up about one fifth of the US population, and due to its very polarized demographics is always important for national US politics. If you want to understand the US as a country, the Midwest is in fact very important.

Is it in a broad sense unsubtle to come out and say "this song is a metaphor for this story"? Sure, I guess. But the movie is also relying on the audience to figure out that the actual metaphor isn't the one that Ego says it is.
