Michael Afton from Sister Location. I personally think it's just a coincidence that they have the same name. But the belief that they're the same person is a pretty strong one.

Yeah, it can be overwhelming. But it's up to the player to put the lore's pieces together after surviving the nights and unlocking new parts of the story via mini games or cutscenes.

And from what I'm hearing about William's business partner, Henry Emily, he sounds pretty accurate to the game's lore after losing his daughter.

William Afton had about 3 kids in the game's canon with 2 of them being killed by animatronics (3 and Sister Location) and the current son Michael Afton being alive(?) somehow after being scooped in Sister Location. Though it seems the movies are combining both the books and games.

So I'm not sure what the deal is with the Toy mascots. And the whole thing with Vanny in the games is she's a follower for Afton instead of being his kid. And has a villainous role in Security Breach.

Not exactly? Freddy may be the mascot/leader but he's not the main character. The timeline is very different compared to the games and movies since the sequel game is actually a prequel. Which explains the Toy characters being shiny and new to the diner. Haven't seen the movie yet.
