AKA "LARP DAD": director of LARP at Momocon, game player and designer, hobbyist cook. Professionally a software engineer with more experience than I really want to mention (because it makes me feel old).
As long as it fits narratively there could be a class of characters that carry around sci-fi Leathermans, that are difficult to use but infinitely configurable with sufficient experience. Which in a fantasy setting would be like a magic wand specialist.

So a character can have a sci-fi Leatherman that they only understand how to use one way (Nice pliers). But as they advance they learn how to use it for a multitude of functions that they never understood before (OMG, it can open bottles too?!?)

Most importantly is not if the technology can be explained scientifically, as long as it fits narratively and is internally consistent (like most fantasy magics).

It doesn't even have to be "explained" how it breaks our laws of thermodynamics. As long as it doesn't break the narrative.

This can be a little awkward at times, as not all magical effects translate well to being explained by a technology. Ex: summonings and conjurations.

But with a little creativity even can be explained away by something like the Star Trek transporter/replicator.

So my first goal is going to be to make a world that people can tell interesting stories with first, and communicate that world.

I'll start sprinkling in the deep philosophical ideas like "what makes us human?" and "are thinking machines deserving of rights?" later

In sci-fi, Western/Samurai stories work better in an RPG framework because they hew closer to Joseph Campbell's Hero's Journey... which is a ready made framework that any GM can plug right into and build good storytelling from.

For a math nerd like me the statistical distribution of dice rolls is very nice (mmmm bell curves). The mechanics of narrative instead of ordered flow creates more opportunities for dramatic scenes. And it has a single set of core mechanics that function for everything.

Not at all, the right wing has been committing violence in the country for decades.

I am though waiting to hear news that the shooter was themselves a right winger angry at Kirk about some stupid bullshit.

Right... Because making somebody out for the clean that they are causes assassination.

It was an aggressive feint to see if NATO forces would rush to defend or if they would dither. And it is likely not the last one we are going to see, because this was a common move of the USSR during the Cold War, though a much more aggressive one.

All of the drones were downed and the bombers turned South soon after. But this is not the end of the story, this was a probe of NATO's strategic readiness and resolve in the region.

Poland saw this as an attack. And for good reason, the Polish people have been victimized by Russian aggression ever since the 18th century. They have a healthy paranoia of Russia. Even after the USSR broke up, Poland still felt the need to join the NATO alliance as soon as they could.

Airports in the region had to halt service, Polish people were advised to shelter in place, and NATO fighter craft and air defenses were activated to shoot down the invaders. Polish reservists were contacted to be prepared to mobilize with as little as a six hour warning period.

But last night multiple groups of Russian drones passed into Polish airspace. Russia did not answer the deconfliction line to explain what was going on. Even more provocatively a squadron of Russian bombers were being tracked on a flight path not towards Ukraine, but West towards Poland.

The manned aircraft have always turned back quickly after being told by air traffic control where they were, and unmanned aircraft usually crashed or self-destructed before going too far in.
