I either boot it from an EasyFlash cartridge with a speedloader ROM and an SD2IEC as drive replacement or plug my Ultimate II+ into the expansion board. The user port hosts a wifi modem for BBS calls.
A C64 Ultimate without an external userport is ultimately not for me 😏

The trusty old C64 is still a welcome guest on my desk. I sourced almost all of the parts for my current one from eBay. VIC, CPU, CIAs, SID, board, keys... I reassembled everything into a brand new case from Individual Computers (made from original Commodore moulds) and brought it back to life.

I wish they made it that he would still sit there after I delivered the sandwich. Or even made a repeatable followup quest where we could sit with him and have a sandwich with him every now and then.

I'm with you on using it to understand code. But as a clean code evengalist my DRY alert goes off at "generate the same for x". That smells like code that - with some thought put intio it - could have easily been a generic type, an extension or base class method or whatever to avoid repetitive code.
